Aug. 21, 2017 ~ SHE KNEW THE POWER OF GOD AND RAN FORTH MAKING IT KNOWN (Week 6)

¡hola!

Half of our district left this morning and the rest leave tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'm not scheduled to leave until Wednesday morning at 3:30 am... (I'm so excited to get to California!) So tomorrow, Hermana Ferrin and I get to welcome all of the new missionaries that will be coming to the CCM!

Haha all of my clothes are packed.. so if you look closely,
you will notice that I am wearing sweats...
(that an Elder in my district didn't want...
not sure if that's allowed and should be included...
but, oh well)... and my church shoes.
Yay for P-Days 😃

                                                                                                                       (I'm in the center)

(My district with our bishopric)

Everyone in my district made a full recovery from the sicknesses and afflictions that plagued us last week. It was such a blessing! We were able to spend our last says together laughing and singing hymns and talking about how excited we are to eat American food. I probably won't miss being scared at least twice a day (by the elders hiding and jumping out at me), but I will definitely miss them. They'll be awesome missionaries!

Saying goodbye to our teachers was a bit sad... but they are both getting married in the next month (not to each other), and have so many great things in store for them! Hermana Diaz and her husband will continue to work here at the CCM and Hermano Hernandez and his wife will be living in Arizona where they will attend school. They're amazing people and encouraged us to be the best missionaries ever! They taught us so much!

Prior to saying goodbye, Hermano Hernandez ate dinner with our district. I told him a story of something funny I did before my mission (yes, I'm leaving that particular story out of my email on purpose), and I made him laugh so hard that he choked on his taco. (He refused to eat comedor food so he had gone to a vendor and bought tacos and then came back to the CCM to eat them with us.) It was kind of scary for a second, but he was fine and then we laughed some more. He's super cool. And since he will be living in the US, he said he and his wife will come to all of our weddings (sometime in the far future). I think he said that with the assumption that most of us won't get married...but still. What a good guy.

He got a new district last week, and he has convinced them that he doesn't speak any English. Haha he asked our whole district to get in on it and we have convinced them that it's a rough 6 weeks with solo Español. Hahaha he's so dang funny. I'm glad he's moving to the US so we can see him!

My closing interview with Hermana Diaz was so awesome. I look up to her so much! We reminisced on the few hours that we were companions while both of mine were sick. She gave me some great advice and reminded me how short this time to serve really is! I wish I could take her to my mission with me to be my trainer and companion! I love her!

The Bennetts (the MTC President and his wife) invited our district to their home last Wednesday night to eat cookies and have a spiritual thought. President gave us some advice for the field and told us stories of the miracles that he has seen throughout his life. It got all of us excited for the real people we get to teach, and for the miracles we will be privileged to witness in California. The Bennetts are such awesome people and I want to be just like them!

Hermana Farmer cut my hair this week.
Haha it was awesome.
She did a great job!!
Super grateful for her.

I quickly just want to share a thought from one of my Book of Mormon heroes.
Her name is Abish, and she was a servant to the Lamanite queen.

(READ ALMA 19!)

When Abish saw that Ammon, the King, the Queen, and the other servants laid on the ground, overcome with the spirit, she saw it within her responsibility to tell everyone of the great miracle that had taken place.

17 ... she knew that it was the power of God; and supposing that this opportunity, by making known unto the people what had happened among them, that by beholding this scene it would cause them to believe in the power of God, therefore she RAN forth from house to house, making it known unto the people.

ABISH knew the Power of God, recognized the opportunity and RAN to share the good news ...

18 And they began to assemble themselves together unto the house of the King...

When the people gathered themselves together, they argued over the cause of the king´s fallen state, and also the fallen state of his servants and Queen. And there was a lot of commotion and contention.

28 ... And while they were thus contending, the woman servant who had caused the multitude to be gathered together came, and when she saw the contention which was among the multitude she was exceedingly sorrowful, even unto tears.
29 And it came to pass that she went and took the queen by the hand, that perhaps she might raise her from the ground; and as soon as she touched her hand she arose and stood upon her feet...

When the queen arose, she was filled with joy and bore testimony of Jesus Christ and his redeeming love. After this, The Queen, King, Ammon, and the Lamanite Servants ALL proclaimed that their hearts had been changed and they shared the gospel with those who had gathered themselves together at the home of the King.

35 And it came to pass that there were many that did believe in their words: and as many as did believe were baptized...
36 ...the Lord did ... pour out his Spirit upon them;

(I'm 5th from the right)

There may be times when we consider ourselves to be nothing but a servant. We may think we are surrounded by importance, yet we are not a part of it. Do not allow yourself to feel inferior or unimportant! Abish contributed to many souls being saved that day.

Abish knew the Power of God and understood her divinity as a Daughter of God ~ regardless of the fact that she was a servant here on earth. She recognized an opportunity and a responsibility to share the good news of Jesus Christ and His gospel. And she RAN to do just that!

"As children of God we are somebody. He will build us, mold us and magnify us. If we will but hold our heads up, our arms out and walk with Him." Elder Marvin J. Ashton

Each one of us has a DIVINE calling, as a DIVINE CHILD OF GOD, participating in His DIVINE plan. I want to be like Abish.

Love,
Hermana Brooks

                              (Sweetest and coolest people ever.
I love them.)

(This sister played basketball at Snow and might walk on to play volleyball somewhere after her mish. But if not, we are rooming together at BYU. Intramurals would be a blast.)

(These two sisters and I go running together in the mornings. Actually, that only happened once... But it was a good time.)

Some girls from our casa. A Latina worker came into our house this morning and started yelling at us to run and get in a van that was parked outside. We were so confused, but abided by the law of exact obedience and did what we were told. We were then driven to Reception, where they told us that we are moving houses. For one night. Haha we didn't understand but we did as we were told, and moved ALLLL of our stuff into a new casa.
