Oct. 30, 2017 ~ HE HATH FILLED THE HUNGRY WITH GOOD THINGS (Week 16)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

We had a Halloween party on Saturday.
Soooo much fun.
I love the Latin culture.
We had yummy tamales and everyone dressed up (except us),
and we played lots of fun games.

I truly love the people here!

We went on exchanges this week and I was comps with Sister M for 24 hours.
She is the coordinating STL and a great example.
We had an exhausting day... in a good way.
We worked so hard and biked for 6 hours and talked to everyone...

We found 5 new investigators just in one day...

Sister M is very musically talented and taught me a song she wrote that shares some points about the restoration.

She carried her ukulele around in a back pack while we rode our bikes.

Every person we passed, we asked if we could sing them a song.

We were harmonizing and it was so cool...

What's even cooler, is that some people didn't speak English. Sister M speaks Tongan and English and I speak Spanish. So, whoever we talked to, whatever language they spoke, we asked them to pay attention to how they FELT while we sang (we sang in English). EVERY SINGLE PERSON SAID THEY FELT SOMETHING IN HIS/HER HEART;  we were then able to testify that he/she was feeling the Holy Spirit and also ask if he/she wanted to learn more. Two of these new investigators only spoke Spanish... so it was up to me (and most importantly the Holy Spirit) to talk, teach and set a return appointment with them. It was such a miracle. Being able to teach and have conversations in their language gave me a needed confidence boost in my Spanish. So thankful for the Holy Spirit! It was super fun.

TRUTH IS TRUTH no matter in which language you say it...
And the Holy Spirit is the universal language.

Super awesome.

Something else happened this week that was cool. One day, my companion and I said a prayer and asked Heavenly Father to guide us where we needed to be. We felt like we should knock some apartments close by, so we did. We found 2 new investigators-- next door neighbors. The first is a guy named J. The other is a young mom of 3 who had been praying for something that would help her family... she said she was hungry but for something spiritual (like the verse found in Amos 8). She is awesome.

*Elder Holland reminds us how this hunger is prevalent today....'Many long for something, sometimes (they) cry out for something, but too often scarcely know for what...With one voice and one accord, we bear witness that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only way to satisfy ultimate spiritual hunger and slake definitive spiritual thirst. Only He who was so mortally wounded knows how to heal our modern wounds. Only One who was with God, and was God,( John 1:1) can answer the deepest and most urgent questions of our soul. Only His almighty arms could have thrown open the prison gates of death that otherwise would have held us in bondage forever. Only on His triumphant shoulders can we ride to celestial glory—if we will but choose through our faithfulness to do so... Christ has overcome the world—our world—and His gift to us is peace now and exaltation in the world to come..."

He continues, "I pray... that all who are hungering and thirsting, and sometimes wandering, will hear this invitation from Him who is the Bread of Life, the Fountain of Living Water, the Good Shepherd of us all, the Son of God: 'Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, … and ye shall find rest unto your souls.' (Matt. 11:28-29) ... Come, and feast at the table of the Lord.' (Ensign, Nov 1997)

He hath filled the hungry with good things (Luke 1:53).

Love,
Hermana Brooks
