May 21, 2018 ~ "The Burdens on Your Shoulders..." (Week 45)

Hello Hello!

1. Here's a cool little thing
that happened recently...

One of our members brought his sister, Maria, and her two kids, Luis and Alexis, to our ward party. I started talking to her and it turns out that she had met with the missionaries a few years back and had even come to church, but she wasn't super interested at the time and dropped them. As I got to know her and her situation a little bit more, we started talking about how hard it is to be a single mom...

I began to speak about my Aunt Laylene, whom I love and admire so much. I shared the story of how my Uncle Dave passed away from cancer and Laylene was left to work and take care of 5 kids by herself.

We talked about the strength that comes through the gospel of Jesus Christ and about coming to church. So, she decided to give the church another chance and came 2 Sundays ago. She LOVED IT! We taught her and her sons the Restoration last Thursday and they LOVED IT! AND… she came to church again this last week and LOVED IT! So yeah, she's definitely getting baptized… Hopefully it can happen before I leave this area in a few weeks. Please pray for them!

It's incredible to me how the trials we go through allow us to testify of the strength that comes through the Lord. I'm sure at the time, my Aunt Laylene never thought that her example would be the causing factor of a woman from Mexico coming to church in California, more than 10 years later. But, how grateful I am for her strength and example. ❤

“And I will also ease the burdens
which are put upon your shoulders,
that even you cannot feel them upon
your backs, even while you are in
bondage; and this will I do that ye
may stand as witnesses for me hereafter,
and that ye may know of a surety that I,
the Lord God, do visit my people in
their afflictions.”
(Mosiah 24:14)
