Aug. 6, 2018 ~ The God of Miracles (Week 56)

Hey Y'all. I am finally feeling better! Yay!! Thank you for the prayers.💕

This week was crazy cool. I was reading in Mormon 9 (The Book of Mormon) about how God is a God of Miracles, who doesn't change.  I love verses 19-21, which say...

19 And if there were miracles wrought then (in times of old), why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.

20 And the reason why he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is because that they dwindle in unbelief, and depart from the right way, and know not the God in whom they should trust.

21 Behold, I say unto you that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him; and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth.

These verses hit me so hard!

My companion and I started to have a discussion on it in comp study, and I realized that I personally get so caught up in the routine of missionary work that I forget to ask for miracles...

So, we decided that day that we would ask God to put us in the path of miracles, having the faith and trust that He would grant unto us this desire.

And wow we were in for a treat.

That day, we knocked random doors that happened to be interested families, less-active members who ended up coming to church because of our visit, and many spirit-filled conversations.

However, the coolest experience we had happened towards the end of the night. (It always seems to work that way)...

I was in the middle of returning a phone call to our mission president, when I saw this woman and her young daughter walk past. They smiled and waved, and my companion and I looked at each other, knowing that we both felt the need to go talk to them. So, I hung up the phone mid-ring to our president and we rushed over to the woman.

We learned that she had recently moved to the US from El Salvador and that she had met with missionaries there. She said that she wanted to get baptized but suddenly had to move to California and didn't get the opportunity.

We talked about how God was aware of her, and how he wants her to be baptized which is why we ran into each other. She was so happy and said, "I know! What a miracle that He sent you 2 little angels. But this time I don't have to leave." (Poor translation from Spanish to English but you get the point;)

OKAYYYYYY GOLDENNNNNN... So incredible. She is an angel. And I feel so blessed to have been part of such a big miracle. My companion turned to me as we walked away and said "Did that really just happen?" And I just smiled so big and said "WoooHooo" (you had to be there).

Then I calmed down and we said a prayer of gratitude.

So, if you want to see miracles in your life, do what the scripture says! You won't regret it!

It's like God has a ladle and he's ready to scoop us some DELICIOUS soup. He's not going to give it to us unless we have our bowl in hand, outstretched, with feelings of excitement as we feel ready to eat the soup. If we aren't ready to receive it, he's not just going to dump a ladle full of soup onto us and tell us to enjoy it… We have to be ready. We have to ask for it. We have to be prepared to receive it. Such it is with prayer and the receiving of blessings that result.

Lots of other cool things happened this week but I'm too tired to write them all.

Haha, so suffice it to say that I love my comp, I love this time I have to be a missionary...

...and I love my giant Latino family.

The Arias family, whom I adore. Cutest and kindest people!

Xoxo

Love, Hermana Brooks
