July 30, 2018 ~ Sick as a Dog...But Happy as a Clam (Week 55)
Wow, what a week.
I've been pretty darn sick, but I just got put on an antibiotic so hopefully this whole bronchitis thing goes away within the next few days :).
I've just been chillin’ at home, eating gluten-free corn bread and home-made chocolate Rice Krispie treats from my wonderful Aunt SaRene… so it hasn’t been horrible 😉.
My new companion's name is Sister Haubner. She is from Missouri and has been out for 15 months. We get along great! Super happy and excited to work.
This week we started
teaching a family who is so incredible. The dad is a recent convert and the
daughter is preparing to be baptized. We went over to their home with the
intention to just teach the little girl, Emily, but we ended up teaching the
whole family and it was amazing. They're preparing to go through the temple and
guess what?! THEY WANNA MOVE TO UTAH! So that means I'll be able to see them
easily after the mission! I'm so excited. Wow I love them.
The Escalantes, Sofia, Sandy, and Sergio took my companion and I to dinner at Applebees...
It was sooo good to see them and to say a proper goodbye… (because I left that area without having the opportunity to say goodbye to many people).
So that was a great experience and even though I was sick as a dog they still loved me and fed me and called me their child.
So blessed to have family wherever I go. 💙
We also got to take the Samoan sisters to lunch.
Wow they're so funny.
I laughed a substantial amount. Sister Sekona is from New Zealand and Sister Neeham is from Utah, but she's half Tongan....
And their favorite food is Mexican so they are for sure doing this Cali thing right.😉
We have been assigned to cover an English speaking ward as well as our Spanish speaking ward. So that means 6 hours of church on Sunday, but I love it. The new English ward is GREAT and super kind. They haven't had sisters for years and we were received very well. One lady in the gospel principles class literally started fanning her face as she said, "Oh my gosh, I'm gonna cry I am so excited to finally have sisters". It felt nice to be wanted 😊. We are excited to work hard and not let them down! Our work load definitely doubled, but it’s not a bad thing. 😊
We are teaching this less-active
member named Andy and wow, he's awesome. He has come to church for the past 3
consecutive Sundays and attributes the good things happening in his life to his
reconnecting with God… “Happy are
thy men… which stand continually before thee, and hear thy wisdom.” (2
Chronicles 9:7, Old Testament) When
we showed up to the lesson, he said, “Why didn't you tell me you were
sick?! I would have told you not to come!" To which I responded that I
almost did, but the spirit told me that we needed to go see him. He was so
touched that we came even though I was sick, and we had the most awesome lesson
on the Plan of Salvation. Then he gave me lots of over-the-counter medicine…
haha. He's a super good guy and it has been cool to see his happiness increase weekly. The gospel
does wonders, my friends. “Consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.” (Mosiah
2:41, Book of Mormon)
Well, friends. I think
that's all for now…
Sick as a Dog…
...But Happy as a Clam.
Love you ALL!
Read the scriptures!
Xoxo
Love, Hermana Brooks
